Home Health Nurses are Set Up to Fail !
This unfortunate fact was the inspiration behind Home Health Methods. We’ve see it too many times. Good nurses enter the home health field for the great pay, freedom, and personal reward of working closely with patients. But with no standardized training in the industry many find the job too demanding and quit. Improper care hurts patients and the reputation of the industry. Inadequate documentation leads to confusion in the billing process directly effecting the agency’s bottom line. An absence of standards frustrates the nurse and they leave. Agencies suffer, patients suffer, and the industry loses a good nurse. Proper training is the solution. Home Health Methods was established to provide the essential training that home health has been lacking.
Training Specifically for Home Health Professionals
Home Health Methods offers comprehensive training for home health nurses. Open to RNs and LVNs, our classes train students in every aspect of home health nursing. We will teach specific techniques, procedures, patient protocol, scheduling and time management, Oasis, and Medicare procedures.
Goals and Objectives
Home Health Methods was founded with the primary objective of providing the home health industry with a comprehensive training course for nurses. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by nurses away from a supervised hospital or clinic setting, we have developed a course that will give the student the necessary knowledge, tools, and overall performance guidelines required to perform their job at the highest level.
Soon we will be offering courses for physical therapists, home health aides, and customer service personnel. Our goal is to see that every home healthcare professional has the skills and knowledge needed to deliver the highest quality care to every patient in an efficient, compassionate manner while providing accurate reporting to maximize the agency’s billing.
Why are these courses needed?
Home health is a unique job in the nursing profession. It is very different from hospital, clinic, or other healthcare fields. In the patient’s home you are on your own without access to immediate assistance. More than most other healthcare jobs, good decision making, judgment, and knowledge are essential. In our experience we have observed a general lack of consistent performance standards. Many nurses new to home health are required to perform procedures they have not practiced for some time, often not since nursing school. The industry also lacks specific guidelines for working in patients homes, interacting with family members, and the other unique challenges of home health nursing. Charting of events and other required documentation is also very important in this profession, and a lack of consistency in this aspect of the business is a common problem for the agencies, patients, and physicians. Until now there has been no comprehensive training program specifically geared toward home health. Home Health Methods is a training organization that will provide complete instruction in all aspects of home health nursing.
